A Focusing-by-Vergence System Controlled by Retinal Motion Disparity

چکیده
In this paper we describe a focusing-by-vergence system combining a ow based vergence process with an oo-line pre-calibration of the focusing odometry. The vergence process is controlled by the retinal optical ow disparity and the target depth velocity is directly obtained from this disparity. The relationship between the target depth (focused target distance) and the focusing odometry of the motorized lens is obtained by an oo-line focusing calibration, using a bivariate polynomial to model de relationship between these parameters. The focusing system is velocity controlled and the focusing velocity is dependent on the target focusing depth velocity and the focal distance velocity. The innuence of the focal distance velocity that arise due to the focusing process itself is compensated by the adjustment of the zoom parameter based on a constant magniication approach, or through the modeling of the focal distance as a function of the zoom and focus lens settings.

Binocular Tracking and Accommodation Controlled by Retinal Motion Flow
In this paper we described a tracking and accommodation system controlled by retinal motion ow. The tracking system is decomposed in two basic behaviors: smooth-pursuit to track target movements along the horopter and vergence to track movements along the cyclopean axis. Both behaviors are optical ow based. The eyes accommodation (focusing) is based on a focusing-by-vergence approach combining ...
متن کاملThe effect of changing size on vergence is mediated by changing disparity.
In this study, we investigated the effect of changing size on vergence. Erkelens and Regan (1986) proposed that this cue to motion in depth affects vergence in a similar way as it affects perception. The measured effect on vergence was small and we wondered why the vergence system would use changing size as an additional cue to changing disparity. To elucidate the effect of changing size on ver...
متن کاملStereopsis is perturbed by vergence error
Fixation disparity or vergence noise produce instantaneous vergence errors. These errors are analogous to the imposition of a pedestal disparity, which is known to elevate stereothresholds. In this study, stereothresholds were measured as a function of induced vergence errors in subjects with normal binocular vision. Stereo half-images were viewed in the dark through a custom mirror haploscope....
متن کاملVisual field defects for vergence eye movements and for stereomotion perception.
An objective visual field can be mapped in terms of stimulus-induced eye movement. The authors used the scleral coil technique to record vergence and conjugate eye movements while stimulating different visual field locations with a 3 X 3 deg target whose image vergence was oscillated. For each of three subjects tested there was a visual field location where vergence eye movements were much weak...
متن کاملTrue Three-Dimensional Displays that Allow Viewers to Dynamically Shift Accommodation, Bringing Objects Displayed at Different Viewing Distances Into and Out of Focus
Under natural viewing conditions, viewers do not just passively perceive. Instead, they dynamically scan the visual scene by shifting their eye fixation and focus between objects at different viewing distances. In doing so, the oculomotor processes of accommodation (eye focus) and vergence (angle between lines of sight of two eyes) must be shifted synchronously to place new objects in sharp foc...
